The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has pledged support to the Maldives’ fisheries industry.

The SFD assured their support to Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam when he, along with key stakeholders of the Maldives’ fisheries industry, met with the fund’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer Faisal Al-Qahtani during the minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia.

Al-Qahtani pledged to continue to support the country’s fishing industry in achieving its goals.

Fisheries Minister Shiyam arrived in Saudi Arabia to attend the inauguration of the Saudi International Marine Exhibition and Conference (SIMEC) which is the largest seafood exhibition in Saudi Arabia.

Shiyam highlighted that the exhibition is an important platform to strengthen business relationships and share information around various sectors.

Attended by 35 countries, more than 120 companies, and around 3,000 industry executives across the host nation and overseas, 2024’s third annual iteration of SIMEC was a three-day event held from 4 to 6 February at Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre, organised by Saudi Arabia’s National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.
