Attorney General Ahmed Usham recently held discussions with Auditor General Hussain Niyazy and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) President Adam Shamil on further enhancing the ongoing efforts to recover state funds lost to embezzlement and corruption. The meetings were held separately, according to the AG’s office.
Senior executives from the AG office, the audit office, and ACC attended the discussions, which centred on devising strategies to reclaim misappropriated funds—a priority of the Mohamed Muizzu administration, according to the AG office. The AG office did not disclose specific details from the discussions.
These meetings come as the anti-corruption watchdog has recently criticised government offices for their inadequate efforts in recovering lost funds. Investigations conducted this year revealed substantial losses, according to the watchdog, which has instructed government offices and agencies to recover them.
