A normalising committee will be appointed to oversee the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has decided.
The world footballing body said in a statement that the Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to appoint normalisation committees for the Tunisian Football Association (FTF) and the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) on the basis of article 8 paragraph 2 of the FIFA Statutes.
The decision regarding FAM was taken following consultations with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and in order to address the dire governance and financial crisis faced by the FAM, the statement said.
According to the FIFA statement, the period during which the FAM normalisation committee shall perform its functions will expire as soon as it has fulfilled all of its tasks, but by no later than 31 July 2025.
The normalisation committee will consist of a suitable number of members, who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and the respective confederation, and all members will be subject to an eligibility check to be carried out by the FIFA Review Committee in accordance with the FIFA Governance Regulations, FIFA said.
