Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has departed for Saudi Arabia on an official visit, carrying a letter from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This trip comes amid growing economic strain, with reports indicating that the country’s US dollar reserves may be exhausted by the end of August.

The Foreign Ministry announced that Zameer, accompanied by a government delegation, will engage in high-level discussions with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud. The talks are expected to focus on securing free aid, a crucial measure given the current economic challenges.

In addition to the Foreign Minister, the delegation includes the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Ahmed Munawar, who is scheduled to depart for Saudi Arabia on Monday. The delegation will also meet with senior Saudi officials to discuss ongoing and future aid projects.
