The Maldivian government has urged Maldivians living and traveling to Bangladesh to be vigilant due to the ongoing unrest in the country.

More than 25 people have been killed in Bangladesh’s current student protests over the nation’s decision to allocate 30 percent of civil service jobs to the families of Bangladeshi soldiers who fought in the 1971 war.

The Maldives’ Foreign Ministry urged Maldivians currently resident in Bangladesh not to leave their homes during this period, as directed by the Bangladesh government, and to follow instructions by the nation’s government as well as the High Commission of the Maldives in Bangladesh.

While Maldives government is working to ensure the safety and security of Maldivian students and residents living in Bangladesh, Maldivians in Bangladesh who are currently in need of any assistance, have been urged to contact the High Commission of the Maldives in Bangladesh via telephone on;
