The first prosthetics and orthotics laboratory in the Maldives has opened its doors at Hulhumale’ Hospital.
Designed to cater to individuals who have lost limbs due to accidents, diseases, or congenital conditions, the prosthetics and orthotics lab will offer prosthetic implants and custom-made orthotic devices.
Established with the assistance of the Indian government, the laboratory was inaugurated by Vice President Faisal Naseem.
Such assistive devices had previously been exclusively sourced overseas and, while comprehensive healthcare for all is, according to the President’s Office, among the administration’s priorities, establishing such a laboratory in Maldives is expected to reduce costs threefold and make service delivery faster.
