The Maldives Airports Company Ltd. (MACL) has initiated a series of discussions with key stakeholders as part of its preparations for the opening of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA). The objective of these deliberations is to harness stakeholders’ collective insights and identify the necessary preparatory measures required for the successful launch of the new terminal, according to MACL.

The inaugural meeting took place on Sunday at the Hulhulé Island Hotel (HIH), where MACL representatives engaged in discussions with various service providers at the airport. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of MACL, underscored the importance of a seamless transition to the new terminal. He called for a unified effort from all stakeholders to ensure a smooth operationalisation process.

Speaking at the meeting, Mohamed stated, “We will establish specialised committees, composed of service providers, to oversee the operational transition to the new terminal. Informed by the expert recommendations of these committees, we foresee a seamless and successful execution of the terminal’s operationalisation.”

The meeting was attended by prominent figures in the aviation industry, including Ali Jaleel, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, along with senior officers of Maldives Immigration, Maldives Customs Service, airlines, and other service providers.

The VIA expansion plan, which encompasses the new terminal, represents a significant milestone for the airport. Although the exact commencement date is yet to be confirmed, the plan outlines a comprehensive set of upgrades to augment the airport’s capacity and service offerings. The operationalisation of the new terminal is a crucial component of the expansion plan.
