Seven people were hospitalised after a smoke leak in a café on Bodurasgefaanu Magu in Malé City early Monday morning. The Maldives Police Service (MPS) reported that the incident occurred around 5:50 a.m. when smoke from an exhaust pipe in the kitchen entered the café, causing those inside to lose consciousness.

The victims, including one Indian, one Sri Lankan, two Bangladeshis, and three Nepalese, were initially treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for smoke inhalation. Subsequently, one of the affected was transferred to ADK Hospital for further treatment. None of those hospitalised suffered any serious injuries in the incident, according to the authorities.

The cause of the smoke leak was not immediately clear and the incident is under investigation.
