The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced plans to provide legal support to employees who have been unlawfully dismissed from government companies and the civil service.
In a press release on Tuesday, the MDP stated that it would assist employees in taking legal action against dismissals driven by political reasons or intimidation.
“The MDP has decided to assist the employees in taking the necessary legal action as they are being dismissed for political reasons,” the statement read.
Employees seeking legal assistance can reach out via email at helpline@mdp.org.mv or contact the party through Viber at 7341637.
The MDP has raised concerns regarding what it describes as the increasing trend of government ministries and state-owned enterprises dismissing employees based on their political affiliations.
Additionally, the opposition has criticised the government for allegedly expanding its political appointments, although the government has yet to disclose the total number of political appointees.
