Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has asked the Chinese Government to assist the Maldives in its reform programme to revive the nation’s economic and financial standing during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Zameer is currently on an official visit to China.

During the meeting, Zameer updated his opposite number on the Maldives current trajectory.

A press release by the Maldives’ Foreign Ministry said that Zameer briefed the Chinese counterpart on the financial reforms announced by President Mohamed Muizzu. The Chinese government would provide full cooperation and assistance in the endeavour, Zameer said.

While the Minister assured China that the Maldives will continue to maintain the One China Policy, discussions also centred on enhancing ties in the health, infrastructure and tourism sectors the Ministry said, going on to highlight that Zameer thanked the Chinese Foreign Minister for the assistance provided by the Chinese government.

During the meeting, the two countries agreed to increase efforts to strengthen relations in various fields.
