President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will make history as the first Maldivian President to speak at a UN Security Council debate, the government announced on Thursday. The historic appearance will take place during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, currently underway in New York.
The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Heena Waleed during a press conference held at the President’s Office. She noted that this marks President Muizzu’s first attendance at the General Assembly since assuming office.
In addition to addressing the Security Council, President Muizzu is set to attend the Summit of the Future, which will be held on the sidelines of the General Assembly. He will also deliver a speech at Princeton University, one of the prestigious Ivy League institutions in the United States, located in New Jersey.
The 79th session of the UN General Assembly began this week, with the primary events scheduled from 24 September. A total of 193 member states will participate in the global forum.
