The leader of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Ahmed Siyam, has extended an invitation to his “close friend,” Jumhooree Party (JP) presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim, to join the MDA’s existing coalition with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Qasim recently referred to Siyam as a close friend and supporter. Although he is currently backing the MDP’s presidential candidate, incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Qasim claimed that Siyam’s true alliance lies with him. In response, Siyam reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Solih and dismissed Qasim’s claims.

Addressing supporters at a rally in Makunudhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Siyam called on Qasim to support President Solih. “Dear friend, I sincerely ask you to stop spreading these rumours and join us in this alliance. It would only work to your benefit,” he stated.

Siyam described Qasim’s presidential bid as a futile expenditure and urged him to unite with the MDA/MDP/Adhaalath Party coalition to bring true development to the nation.

Sheikh Imran Abdulla, the leader of the Adhaalath Party, also spoke at the rally, echoing Siyam’s call for Qasim to join their coalition with the MDP.
