Tourist arrivals in 2024 have surpassed 1.1 million, with over 100,000 visitors from the United Kingdom, according to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry.
109,271 tourist arrivals have been recorded from 1 to 21 July—a 12.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. As of 21 July, a total of 1,124,800 tourists had visited the country so far this year.
Leading the way, China stands as the primary source market for the Maldives, contributing 144,577 visitors—equivalent to 12.9 percent of the market share. Following closely, Russia secures its position as the second top source market with 119,060 arrivals. The UK claims the third spot, with 100,830 visitors.
Notably, Russia also held the second position in 2023. Italy, with 84,296 arrivals, is the third-largest source market, followed by Germany, with 83,653 visitors. However, India, which dominated as the primary source market in 2023, has slipped to sixth place due to the anti-India stance taken by the Mohamed Muizzu administration.
The Maldivian government aims to attract over two million tourists this year. Of the 182 tourist resorts, 172 are operational, with a bed capacity of 42,955.
