The Election Commission (EC) has said that the training of all elections officials for the September 9 presidential election has now been completed.
“The officials in the atolls have also been finalised,” EC Vice President Ismail Habeeb said during a press briefing at Elections Headquarters in Dharubaaruge.
Training was conducted in the atolls between 20 and 27 August, and while a single training session for the reserve pool is yet to be completed, training of Malé officials has also now been completed, according to Habeeb.
According to EC, all election paraphernalia, including lists and ballot papers, have been delivered to all atolls except for Kaafu atoll, with deliveries for the atoll to be complete by Monday.
Officials are set to depart to polling stations outside Maldives on Wednesday and Thursday, with those going to the resorts scheduled to leave on Friday.
There are a total of 282,395 eligible to vote in the election, 27,000 of whom will be voting for the first time.
Eight candidates will contest the initial September 9 round of the presidential elections; a historic first for the nation.
