The US military base on Diego Garcia, a highly secretive location in the Chagos Archipelago, conducted an unusual charter flight to the Maldives on Sunday, raising questions about the trip’s purpose.
On Sunday, BeOnd, the Maldives’ first luxury airline, operated flight B4 3101 from Diego Garcia to Velana International Airport (VIA) in Malé. The flight touched down at VIA at 19:14 local time.
The Chagos Archipelago, located approximately 500 kilometres south of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, consists of about 60 islands. Diego Garcia is one of these islands and hosts a significant US military base.
Details regarding the reason for the charter flight and the entity that arranged it remain unclear.
