Liverpool FC has successfully completed the signing of 22-year-old Hungarian prodigal midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. He signed a five-year contract with the Reds who paid a transfer fee £60 million to the Bundesliga side.

Capable of playing on the wing as well as in midfield, Szoboszlai is expected to start in the middle of the park under the guidance of manager Jurgen Klopp.

Having showcased his abilities in the Bundesliga last season, Szoboszlai recorded an impressive tally of 6 goals and 8 assists. Such outstanding performances have garnered high praise, with a former manager describing him as “just as talented as Erling Haaland.”

During his first interview at the AXA Training Center in Liverpool, the Hungarian captain expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s really, really good. I enjoyed the last few days, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone better.”

He also mentioned that the process leading up to his arrival was challenging but ultimately fulfilling. Szoboszlai’s admiration for Liverpool FC was evident as he praised the historic club, its exceptional players, and the overall environment.

“For me, it was perfect to make the next step in a club like this. The fans, the stadium, everything is really good.”

A Look Back at Szoboszlai’s Career

Taking a closer look at Szoboszlai’s career thus far, he emerged as a product of the infamous Red Bull Academy, known for nurturing remarkable talent. Prior to joining Leipzig in January 2021, Szoboszlai displayed his skills at Salzburg, where he scored 42 goals and provided 45 assists in 125 games for both the main team and their second-tier reserve team, Liefering.

Unfortunately, an injury delayed his debut for Leipzig until the following season. Nevertheless, he managed to net 20 goals across two seasons, including the decisive goal in this year’s German Cup Final against Eintracht Frankfurt. On the international stage, Szoboszlai has earned 32 caps for Hungary, scoring seven goals since his debut in March 2019 against Slovakia.

Jesse Marsch, former Leeds boss and manager of Szoboszlai during his time at Salzburg and Leipzig, spoke highly of the midfielder’s talent. Marsch remarked, “As talent goes, there aren’t many better players that can play in his position. Dominik is special because he has all of these skills combined. He is just as talented as Erling Haaland.”

Szoboszlai marks Liverpool’s second signing of the summer, following the acquisition of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister. These new additions will strengthen Liverpool’s midfield, particularly in light of the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
