The Maldives and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of 30,000 housing units at Ras Malé.
Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Ali Haidar Ahmed signed the MoU on behalf of Maldives during President Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to China this week — he was accompanied on the visit by several senior administration officials.
While Haider said 30,000 social housing units will be constructed at Ras Malé with Chinese assistance under the MoU, no additional details were given.
The administration has pledged to establish 65,000 housing units, including plots and flats, by reclaiming land on several islands in the greater Malé area.
