The People’s National Congress (PNC) has submitted 12,000 membership forms to the Elections Commission (EC) under its extensive membership drive, the party’s Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla has revealed. He outlined PNC’s efforts to transform into the largest political party in the Maldives.

PNC initiated a nationwide membership drive following its success in the presidential election. It also coincided with the rift that led former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to break ties with the PNC-PPM coalition and establish a new political party.

Over the past month and a half, thousands of new members from across the country have joined PNC, which may include individuals who defected from Yameen’s former party, PPM, to support President Muizzu’s leadership.

Abdul Raheem noted that an additional 12,000 membership forms have been submitted to the EC, with around 20,000 more yet to be processed. PNC aspires to achieve a membership of 25,000 to 30,000 by the end of the year, with a strong commitment to becoming the largest political party in the Maldives.
