A company owned by Mohamed Hussain Shareef, a political appointee by President Mohamed Muizzu under the designation ‘Ambassador-at-Large’ at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was paid MVR 561,000 to provide services in formulating English language letters for the Malé City Council during the Mayorship of the President, it has been revealed.
The council disclosed details of the consultancy under a right to information request by a local news outlet.
Kings Consulting Pvt Ltd was awarded the contract to disseminate information and write documents in English for the needs of the city council.
Shareef is listed as one of the owning partners at the firm.
While all the contracts by the council were valued at MVR 10,078,500, most of the work assigned through contracts were of the type taken on by administrative civil service staff in other state or government agencies at basic civil service salaries.
