Police said on Tuesday a heavily decomposed body found in Hulhumalé on Monday evening may be that of a foreign national reported missing last week.
The body was discovered in the water theme park area of Hulhumalé at 18:13 on Monday, police said in a statement.
Although the identity has not yet been confirmed, investigators said evidence suggested it could be the foreigner who was reported missing on 21 August.
Police identified the remains as those of a man but did not provide further details.
Authorities said efforts were under way to formally establish the victim’s identity and determine the circumstances of his death.
