Fayyaz Ismail, chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and opposition leader, has condemned the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by Israeli forces. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he described this act as part of an “indiscriminate bombing campaign that has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Lebanese civilians.”

Ismail expressed grave concern over Israel’s “continued impunity in its acts of violence and destruction across the Middle East.” He warned that Israel’s escalating military actions not only threaten regional stability but also pose the risk of igniting a broader conflict, with “devastating consequences for both the region and the international community.”

The MDP leader emphasised the plight of the Palestinian people, highlighting the daily atrocities inflicted upon them through what he termed the “sheer brute power” of Israel and its allies. Ismail asserted that such acts would never lead to lasting security or peace, stating, “True peace can only be achieved through justice for the Palestinian people.”

Ismail called on all “right-thinking citizens” and Muslim leaders around the world to unite and take action to end Israel’s impunity. He underscored the urgency of immediate and decisive steps to prevent further bloodshed and to pave the way for a future grounded in “justice, dignity, and mutual recognition.”

As tensions escalate in the region, Ismail’s remarks resonate with increasing calls for accountability and a reevaluation of international responses to the ongoing Israeli violence.
