The Japanese government has donated 30 additional, Japanese made, waste disposal vehicles to the ‘Magey Saafu Raajje’ (My Clean Maldives) Programme.

The vehicles, provided via grant aid, were handed over to the councils during an event at the Waste Management Corporation Ltd. (WAMCO) Offices in Malé by Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim.

During the event, the Minister noted that Japan would, in the coming days, also provide waste management equipment to 25 islands.

Under the Programme, garbage disposal vehicles were handed over to 48 islands in February, with a total of 78 vehicles delivered thus far.

Japan continues to provide the Maldives with assistance towards solving the nation’s waste disposal problems. The Japanese government had also assisted in the establishment of the Malé Waste Transfer Station.
