Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) commenced its annual visionary forum, ‘Takeoff 2024’, on Tuesday, in a strategic move that is expected to shape the future of Velana International Airport (VIA).

The forum, a two-day event hosted at Crossroads Maldives, was inaugurated by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MACL, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. The event was attended by members of MACL’s leadership, including Deputy Managing Directors, Division Heads, Department Heads, and Section Heads. The forum is dedicated to fostering collaboration and strategic alignment within the organisation.

‘Takeoff 2024’ is designed to provide clarity through sharing departmental focus and aligning collective strategies to achieve MACL’s goals for 2024, the company said.

In his address to senior management, Mohamed underscored the critical need for swift adaptation and foresight to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of the air travel industry. “An obsessive focus on short-term goals might cause us to lose sight of our future. Companies fail due to a lack of foresight,” Mohamed cautioned.

MACL, a wholly government-owned limited liability company, operates VIA and has been instrumental in destination marketing and attracting new airlines to the Maldives to bolster the tourism industry. The company has embarked on one of the most significant projects in the history of the Maldives, developing the future VIA.

MACL plans to hold the second session of this bi-annual forum in the final quarter of 2024.
