Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim has criticised the Civil Court for the high number of pending and incomplete cases, highlighting a significant backlog that has yet to be addressed.
Speaking at a rally organised by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), the Dhiggaru MP expressed frustration with the Civil Court judges. “What we know from this is that, despite the provision of all necessary resources, the cases remain unresolved,” he said.
Nazim pointed out that despite the Civil Court having 17 judges, there are over 4,000 pending cases. The judge with the lowest number of cases has 112 pending, while the judge with the highest number has over 500, he said. MP Nazim assured that parliament would do everything possible to assist the Civil Court in completing ongoing and pending case hearings.
President Mohamed Muizzu, speaking at the Independence Day reception in July, also highlighted his administration’s commitment to the judicial system. He assured that his administration would provide every necessary support and announced that the development of a new superior court complex would commence next year.
