The Maldives and Tajikistan, on Wednesday, signed an Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements, allowing citizens of both nations to visit each other’s nation for a 30-day period without undertaking additional visa requirements.
The agreement was signed on behalf of their respective nations by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations, Ali Naseer Mohamed, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations, Hikmat Jonibek Ismoil. The signing took place at the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan in New York.
The Maldives had also, on 15 November, signed an Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirement for Holders of Diplomatic, Service and Official Passports with Azerbaijan.
Under the agreement, state officials from the Maldives and Azerbaijan holding official and diplomatic passports will be able to travel between the nations without requiring a visa while allowing stays of up to 90 days, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The Maldives first established formal diplomatic relations with Tajikistan on 6 October 1993, and with Azerbaijan on 15 June 2006.
