President Mohamed Muizzu left for Germany on Sunday for a five-day official visit.
The visit, scheduled from 9 to 13 February, is at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During the visit, President Muizzu will hold official talks with President Steinmeier and senior German government officials, the President’s Office said. A business forum with delegates from both countries is also scheduled.
Muizzu is set to visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he will speak on the Maldives’ experience with climate change adaptation, according to the President’s Office. He is also scheduled to address the German Council on Foreign Relations on the Maldives’ views on the role of the ocean in foreign policy.
This year marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. Formal ties were established on 5 July 1966.
The president is accompanied by government ministers and business figures. The President’s Office did not disclose details of the delegation.
