Police have launched an investigation into a forgery case involving Abdul Jaleel Ismail, the Imam of Salman Mosque appointed at the level of a deputy minister.

The case, reported to the police on the 19th of this month, was filed by the family of Hashim Mohamed, a 44-year-old businessman from Hoarafushi Island in Haa Alifu Atoll, who was found dead in Malé on 2 January 2022.

Hashim’s family alleges that Jaleel forged documents to transfer all of Hashim’s businesses to his own name. They also claim there are suspicious circumstances surrounding Hashim’s death.

Police initially investigated Hashim’s death based on suspicions of possible foul play, but the outcome of the investigation remains unclear.

A clash between Hashim’s family and Jaleel occurred on Monday in a shop in the city. Footage of the incident has been circulating on social media, prompting a police investigation.

The police advised both parties to resolve property and housing disputes through the civil court.
