Police have announced plans to send the body of a four-month-old baby from Guraidhoo Island in Kaafu Atoll abroad for an autopsy following the infant’s death on Friday night.
Authorities confirmed that the death was reported to them and is under investigation, but no further details have been disclosed about the circumstances surrounding the case.
The child was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guraidhoo Health Centre at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Later the same night, at around 3:00 a.m., the baby’s body was transported to Malé for additional testing. Police reportedly decided to take custody of the body while funeral arrangements were being prepared.
Although those who saw the body noted no visible injuries, some media outlets reported signs of nosebleeding.
Police have not commented on why the autopsy is being conducted.
