Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called on Maldivian businesses to invest in Sri Lanka, highlighting opportunities across several key sectors.
Speaking after bilateral talks with President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday, Dissanayake described Sri Lanka as a reliable investment destination for Maldivian entrepreneurs.
“I invite Maldivians to invest in IT, AI, fisheries, agro-processing, tourism, real estate and urban infrastructure sectors,” he said.
Dissanayake briefed Muizzu on Sri Lanka’s newly introduced single-window system, designed to streamline the process of obtaining permits and licences for investors. He also outlined a series of concessions currently available to businesses interested in entering the Sri Lankan market.
The Sri Lankan president’s remarks came during his ongoing state visit to the Maldives, which marks his first official trip to the country since assuming office in September 2024. His visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, established in 1965.
On Monday, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on diplomatic training and a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. The agreements, formalised at the President’s Office in Malé, aim to deepen cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
