The state has collected MVR 1.7 billion as Airport Development Fee (ADF) and departure tax so far this year, the Ministry of Finance has revealed.

According to figures released by the ministry, as of 23 November, MVR 873.2 million was collected as ADF, with MVR 847.9 million collected as Departure Tax.

MVR 738 million was collected over the same period last year as ADF, while departure tax collection stood at MVR 721.8 million.

The airport service charge, which was previously levied as airport tax and fee, was abolished on 31 December 2021, with the introduction of the departure tax in January 2022.

Departure tax is levied on passengers leaving Maldivian airports, with exemptions for those with diplomatic immunity, transit passengers, and children under the age of two.

ADF is a fee charged from passengers departing from Velana International Airport (VIA). Those with diplomatic immunity and direct transit passengers are exempt from the ADF.
