The Maldives’ fish exports fell 48 percent in the first quarter (Q1) this year compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
While the Maldives exported 27,698 metric tonnes of fish in Q1 of 2023, only 14,389 metric tonnes were exported over the same period this year, data by the central bank showed.

Skipjack tuna saw the highest volume moved this year with 9,070 metric tonnes exported.
Around 2,954 metric tonnes of yellowfin tuna were also exported as was 1,904 metric tonnes of canned and poached fish.
