Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel and his Sri Lankan counterpart Vijitha Herath held official talks on Wednesday, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties across multiple sectors.

The meeting, held at Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on cooperation in education, trade and investment, environment and climate change, fisheries, youth empowerment, vocational training, and consular affairs.

Both sides also pledged to work together on regional and multilateral platforms to address “issues of mutual concern and interest,” according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

Khaleel expressed “heartfelt gratitude for the continuous support” provided by Sri Lanka in the socio-economic and human resource development of the Maldives.

The ministers noted that bilateral cooperation has expanded over the years and expressed hope that it would “continue to flourish in the years to come.”

Khaleel also extended an invitation to Herath to visit the Maldives at a mutually convenient time.
