The number of tourists visiting the Maldives has increased by 7 percent compared to the same period last year, with arrivals reaching 358,999 as of Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The figure marks an increase of 23,532 tourists from the 335,467 recorded in the same period in 2024. China remained the largest source market, with 54,438 arrivals, followed by Russia with 35,391 and the United Kingdom with 34,817. Italy and Germany rounded out the top five with 32,474 and 21,466 tourists, respectively.

India ranked sixth with 16,727 arrivals, while France recorded 14,414 tourists. The United States, Poland and Switzerland also featured in the top 10, with 11,067, 8,188 and 7,225 visitors, respectively.

Resorts continued to dominate as the preferred accommodation, hosting 69 percent of arrivals, or 247,548 tourists. Guesthouses accounted for 25.9 percent, accommodating 92,868 visitors, while 9,663 tourists stayed in hotels and 8,664 in safari vessels.

The Maldives currently has 172 operational resorts, 796 guesthouses, 155 safari vessels and 15 hotels.
