The Adhaalath Party on Monday opened applications for its presidency, with eligibility restricted to members registered with the party by that date. The nomination deadline is 8 January 2026 at 16:00.

Applicants must meet several criteria. They must be Muslim, at least 30 years old, and must not have been convicted of an offence under Islamic law. They must also have served on a party committee for a minimum of two years and be familiar with party rules and regulations. Educational requirements include a minimum of a diploma from a state-recognised university or institution, along with three years of practical experience.

The party said a vote would be held even if there is only one candidate. If multiple candidates submit nominations, an election will take place on 31 January through electronic voting.

Imran Abdulla is the current president of the party. He previously served as home minister in the most recent Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government. Adhaalath is a coalition partner in the MDP government.
