Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has expressed gratitude to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), for the organisation’s sustained assistance to the Maldives. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Latheef highlighted the significant strides made in healthcare in the Maldives, attributing much of the progress to the support from the WHO. He also acknowledged the persistent challenges and emphasised the government’s resolve to address these issues, focusing on ensuring reliable, high-quality healthcare in the forthcoming years.

Both the Vice President and the Director General of WHO expressed a shared interest in collaborating on implementing health strategies and pursuing global health targets, the President’s Office said. The WHO, having established its presence in the Maldives since the 1950s, plays a pivotal role in the nation’s health sector.
