President-elect Mohamed Muizzu met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin and Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar. The meetings were also attended by Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef.

In his second official diplomatic interaction since becoming president-elect, Muizzu met with Ambassador Wang, as she had earlier conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s congratulations to Muizzu on his presidential election win.

“President Elect Dr. @MMuizzu [Muizzu] and Vice President Elect @HucenSembe [Latheef] met with the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives @China_Amb_Mdv [Wang], discussed further strengthening the friendly relationship between 🇨🇳 [China and] 🇲🇻 [Maldives,” a post to social media by the Progressive Party of the Maldives said.

The incoming president later met with India’s High Commissioner Munu Mahawar in his latest diplomatic call as president-elect.

“President Elect Dr. @MMuizzu [Muizzu] and Vice President Elect @HucenSembe [Latheef] had a fruitful meeting with the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives  @MunuMahawar [Mahawar]
Discussions were held on further enhancing bilateral relations between 🇲🇻 [Maldives and] 🇮🇳 [India],” a post to social media by the Progressive Party of the Maldives said.

The president-elect is expected to meet with several top diplomats and leaders of international missions during the current transition period.

Muizzu defeated incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih by an eight percent margin in the second round runoff of the recent presidential elections and is expected to be sworn in as President on 17 November 2023.
