The Muizzu government has transferred Ali Zuhair, Managing Director of Road Development Corporation (RDC), to the post of Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The change comes after HDC’s Managing Director Mauroof Jameel resigned from his post. His departure, announced on Wednesday, followed reports that he was forced to resign by the government. About a month earlier, Jameel had announced his intention to retire, but his sudden resignation has fuelled speculation that he was pressured to step down. Jameel was appointed to HDC on 22 December 2024, succeeding Ibrahim Fazul Rashid, who stepped down amid corruption allegations.
Fazul’s resignation came after he was accused of selling land without a public announcement, engaging in corrupt practices, and allocating land to individuals who had not qualified under the government’s housing scheme.
Zuhair, who retired from the Maldives National Defence Force with the rank of Brigadier General, was appointed to RDC on 29 November 2023.
Meanwhile, the government has appointed Ibrahim Nazeem, formerly a state minister at the Ministry of Construction, as the new Managing Director of RDC. Nazim was appointed state minister on 21 November 2023.
