A Bangladeshi national, sought by Maldives Immigration for allegedly killing cats and preparing their meat, has been arrested, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Arfat Hossain, 32, was apprehended around 10:30 a.m. at a salon in Male’ while attempting to alter his appearance by cutting his hair. The police made the arrest following a widely circulated video on social media that showed Hossain allegedly killing cats and preparing them for food.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare had earlier reported the incident to the police, prompting an investigation. Maldives Immigration had ordered Hossain to present himself at their office within five days, but he evaded capture until Tuesday.

The police have yet to release further details on the investigation or charges against Hossain.
