Champa Brothers Chairman Mohamed Moosa and Crown Company Chairman Hussain Afeef have been recognised as the ‘Faces of South Asia’ by the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) for their significant contributions to the Maldives’ tourism industry.
The prestigious awards were presented by SATA Vice President Suraj Khan during a ceremony held at Meeru Island Resort and Spa, one of the resorts owned by the brothers, on Sunday. The award honours their pivotal roles in shaping and advancing the tourism and hospitality sector in the Maldives.
Hussain Afeef, a key figure in the industry’s early development, played an instrumental role in the establishment of Kurumba Maldives, the nation’s first-ever resort, which opened in 1972. Since then, Afeef has remained a driving force in the country’s tourism growth, overseeing the development of several iconic luxury resorts.
Mohamed Moosa, also a prominent tourism pioneer, holds significant investments in the industry. He owns numerous high-end resorts and is a major shareholder in Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA), the world’s largest seaplane operator, which serves as a critical transport link for many of the Maldives’ remote island resorts.
Together, through their company Crown & Champa Resorts, the brothers operate 10 luxury resorts in the Maldives, providing a range of upscale experiences from all-inclusive stays to exclusive private island retreats. They also manage Champa Central Hotel, a key city hotel in the capital, Malé.
Beyond tourism, the brothers have diversified business interests spanning aviation, construction, healthcare, finance, and agriculture.
