Six people have been injured after a battery exploded aboard a ferryboat that was travelling from Ungoofaaru, Raa Atoll, to Male’. 39 people were on board the vessel at the time, and it was cruising near Eriyadu Island Resort, Kaafu Atoll.
The explosion was reported to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) around 4 p.m. Promptly after receiving the report, a coastguard vessel arrived at the scene and provided necessary assistance. The injured individuals were initially taken to a clinic on Eriyadu Island Resort and later transferred to Male’ for further treatment. However, the severity of their injuries remain unknown.
The vessel with the remaining passengers was towed to Eriyadu Island Resort, according to the coastguard.
