The President’s Office (PO) has begun the administrative process of transferring all municipal services at Hulhumalé, currently provided by Urbanco, to the Malé City Council. The transfer of municipal services was one of President Mohamed Muizzu’s campaign promises and is also included in the administration’s first 100 days plan.

The President’s Office said in a statement that once the changes are completed, all municipal services throughout Malé city will be provided by the city council.

The reallocation of the municipal services was initiated at the request of many residents at Hulhumalé, the President’s Office said in a statement.

President Muizzu, prior to being elected, had guaranteed that no employee of Urbanco would lose their job even if municipal services were transferred to the city council. The president had said he would leave it up to individual employees to move to the city council or stay at Urbanco.
