The Maldives government has strongly condemned the attack carried out on Sunday at Bondi Beach in Australia, describing the incident as a cowardly and heinous act that has no place in any society.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government extended its condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a swift and full recovery.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people and the Government of Australia during this difficult time,” the statement said.

The government said the Maldives and its people stand in solidarity with Australia as the country mourns the victims of the attack. It also reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

Australian authorities described the mass shooting as a terrorist act motivated by hatred against the Jewish community. Sixteen people were killed, including a child and one of the attackers, and at least 43 others were wounded and taken to hospital.

World leaders and governments have issued messages of condolence and condemnation following the incident, as Australia grapples with one of the most serious security incidents in recent times.
