The Maldives has condemned Israel’s decision to halt the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, calling the move a “blatant violation” of international agreements and humanitarian laws.
In a statement released on Monday, the Maldives slammed the Israeli government’s actions as a direct breach of the ceasefire agreement, as well as international human rights and humanitarian law.
“The Government of the Republic of Maldives strongly condemns the Israeli government’s decision to halt the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, which is a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement, international human rights law, and international humanitarian law,” the statement said.
The Maldives called on the international community to take swift action in response to what it described as “grave violations” by Israel, urging the activation of international accountability mechanisms and stressing the need for the “safe, continuous, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all areas of the Gaza Strip.”
The statement also reaffirmed the Maldives’ support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and added that “a just and lasting resolution to the conflict can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,”.
The Maldives has long been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights in international forums and continues to call for an end to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian land, as well as the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
