The Maldives’ fish exports fell 45.7 percent over the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, data by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) reveals.

According to central bank figures, the Maldives exported 19,060 metric tonnes of fish from January to April in 2024; 16,021 metric tonnes less when compared to the 35,081 metric tonnes exported over the same period last year.

The most volume of fish exported was skipjack tuna, with a total export weight of 12,240 metric tonnes.

In addition, 3,740 metric tonnes of yellowfin tuna, as well as 2,557 metric tonnes of canned and poached fish, were also exported.
