The Maldives’ High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mohamed Thoha, met with Afghanistan’s Acting Ambassador in Pakistan, Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb, in Islamabad on Friday.
According to the Embassy of Afghanistan in Islamabad, the two diplomats discussed strengthening bilateral relations and trade ties between the countries.
The meeting also focused on ways to facilitate trade with other Central Asian nations via Afghanistan, the embassy said.
In December 2018, the Maldives acknowledged Afghanistan’s right to self-governance after which, in August 2021, the Taliban established a government in the nation.
The Maldives established formal diplomatic relations with Afghanistan in March 2006.
