The Maldives has been crowned the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination for the fourth year in a row at the World Travel Awards 2023 (WTA) Indian Ocean Category. The awards were presented at the WTA Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony, hosted at the globally acclaimed Atlantis The Royal in Dubai, UAE.
The Maldives didn’t stop with just one award; the country also secured the esteemed titles of Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination and Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination for the fourth consecutive year. In addition, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the driving force behind the country’s tourism sector, was honoured with the title of Indian Ocean’s Leading Tourist Board 2023.
These awards serve as a testament to the Maldives’ position as an unrivalled tourist destination and highlight the country’s commitment to providing unforgettable experiences to visitors from all corners of the globe, the MMPRC said.
The Maldives is also in the running for several awards in the highly coveted WTA World’s Category, the most prestigious of all WTA categories. The nominations include World’s Leading Destination 2023, World’s Leading Beach Destination 2023, World’s Leading Dive Destination 2023, World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2023, World’s Leading Island Destination 2023, and World’s Most Romantic Destination 2023.
The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, is considered the pinnacle of accolades in the global travel and tourism industry. The awards aim to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the travel and tourism industry worldwide.
Voting for the WTA World Category will remain open until 17 November 2023.
