The Maldives has participated in the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition Against Daesh (D-ISIS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.

This marks the first time the nation has attended a meeting since becoming a member in August 2023. All other member nations also participated.

D-ISIS is an alliance formed in 2014, under the leadership of the Government of the United States of America, to work together to defeat ISIS.

“The country’s engagement in this critical forum underscores its enduring and firm commitment to the global fight against Daesh/ISIS and all forms of terrorism, which threaten the peace, security, and stability of all nations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Maldives, during the meeting, stressed that terrorism must never be associated with any religion, nationality, or ethnicity while also reaffirming its commitment to fostering global security, promoting dialogue, and advancing the shared aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous world, the Ministry said.

The countries participating in the meeting noted that the coalition’s efforts have achieved remarkable successes in the fight against terrorism over the past decade.

However, with terrorism still a looming global threat, participants stressed the importance of countries working together to combat it effectively.

D-ISIS members also acknowledged the need for the swift exchange of critical information between countries and government institutions in order to maintain an effective response.

With the Maldives now welcomed into its ranks, the number of member countries in D-ISIS has increased to 87.
