Foreign Ministers of the Maldives and Qatar have held high-level talks aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Minister Zameer, currently on an official visit to Qatar, met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar on Sunday. During the meeting, which provided an opportunity to review the burgeoning Maldives-Qatar partnership, Zameer expressed his gratitude to Qatar for its generous assistance in the socio-economic development of the Maldives.

The two ministers reiterated their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation, according to a statement from the Maldives’ foreign ministry. During the meeting, Minister Zameer also expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s role in the mediation process on the Gaza crisis.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen their partnership in multilateral fora on matters of global concern. “We discussed future avenues for collaboration to advance the Maldives-Qatar development partnership. I thanked Qatar’s leadership for their generous assistance in our socio-economic development,” said Zameer about his meeting. He further reaffirmed the Maldivian government’s commitment to engage constructively in bilateral and multilateral areas of mutual interest.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Maldives and Qatar. During his ongoing visit, Minister Zameer is also scheduled to meet with other senior officials from the Qatari government to explore opportunities to enhance cooperation in various sectors between the two countries.
