Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has concluded his official visit to Bahrain with key diplomatic engagements and discussions aimed at strengthening the bilateral ties between the Maldives and Bahrain.
Minister Zameer met with Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, and Prime Minister of Bahrain at the Al-Qudaibiya Palace during his visit. Minister Zameer presented a letter from President Mohamed Muizzu to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
During his meeting with Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Zameer thanked Bahrain’s leadership and government for their consistent support of the Maldives over the years and discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries, the Maldives’ Foreign Ministry said in a statement. He and the Crown Prince also discussed global issues of mutual interest, such as the state of the world economy, climate change, and environmental concerns.
Minister Zameer also met with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation. According to the Foreign Ministry, the two ministers considered holding the first round of bilateral political consultations between the Maldives and Bahrain.
Minister Zameer’s visit also included meetings with Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy, and Fatima bint Jaffar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. These discussions centred on economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and ways to boost tourism collaboration.
Minister Zameer also engaged with senior officials from the Bahrain Economic Development Board, discussing strategies for increased business-to-business interactions. He highlighted the investment potential in the Maldives and briefed officials on available opportunities.
As part of the visit, Minister Zameer also met with senior executives of the Bahrain Telecommunication Company, which has played a crucial role in enhancing connectivity across the Maldives. Minister Zameer thanked Batelco at the meeting and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation.
