The Deputy Managing Director (DMD) at Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, has been suspended following allegations of attempting to acquire land in Phase II of Hulhumalé through the submission of fake documents.

In a statement sent to the media, MWSC said Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed had been suspended from all responsibilities pending an ongoing police investigation into Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed is one of two applicants who had applied to HDC to construct a boundary wall demarcating property limits. HDC sent a letter to the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development after the two applications for the construction of a boundary wall were found to be for the same lot number.

In their response, the Ministry determined that the plot had not been allocated to any applicant under the Ministry-run scheme. Another plot submitted for clarification by HDC was also found not to have been allocated under the scheme, the Ministry said.

While HDC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed has repeatedly stated that his agency had not approved the construction of a boundary wall at the plot in question, a boundary wall has already been erected at the site. According to at least one local publication, the boundary wall on the plot was built by Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed — although this remains unconfirmed by official sources.

Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed had applied for a plot under the Ibrahim Mohamed Solih administration’s Binveriya Scheme but was disqualified as he had received housing under a previous scheme.

Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of MWSC, is the brother of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, Managing Director at HDC.
